Q: How clean is the fabric you actually use?

A: All the fabric we use is hand picked and scrupulously cleaned and restored to former and sometimes faded glory. The process has been independently tested by a UKAS accredited body to BS EN 71 European Toy Safety Standards. Putting it into context it’s about as dangerous as a fresh cream bun!

Q: What happens to the material you can’t use?

A: We are currently researching and developing advanced composting techniques for dealing with this part of the waste stream.

Q: I hear the leather is recycled too?

A: Yes. We’ve re-purposed a consignment of cheque book wallets which were destined for landfill. This is because people no longer use cheques or keep their guarantee cards in the same place.

Q: Tell me about the soles?

A: That’s recycled rubber from vehicle tyres.

Q: Where are the shoes made?

A: We use two small family run factories set in the hills of Portugal where the shoes are hand made by artisans - see Made to Order above.

Q: What’s the ABOVE+BELOW LONDON i.d. all about?

A: Tube escalators and steps to the top deck, activity on the streets and underground.

Q: Your site is very dark! Are you trying to make it look like the inside of a tunnel?

A: Maybe but dark screens cost less to run than bright ones! "Image display is primarily a function of the user's colour settings and desktop graphics, as well as the colour and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen."
